“„So they fled across the night together, step by step, the tall man in black and the horned white beast. The magician crept as close to the unicorn‘s light as he dared, for beyond it moved hungry shadows, the shadows of the sounds that the harpy made as she destroyed the little there was to destroy of the Midnight Carnival. But another sound followed them long after these had faded, followed them into morning on a strange road – the tiny, dry sound of a spider weeping.“ – Peter S. Beagle, the Last Unicorn, chapter 3”

Just finished reading The Last Unicorn. (I read fast if something grabs me. And it’s a fairly short book, just shy of 300 pages.)

Excellent story, wonderful feelings. I like Schmendrick much better here, and the descriptions of the Red Bull are even more terrifying than his film depiction. That said, I think the Bull as presented in the book only works in a book.

They’re both a wonderful fairy tale, film and novel. Experience both as soon as possible!

Step 1: See a greatest hits CD from America at the new Pilot in town

Step 2: ALL THE CHILDHOOD FEELS

Step 3: Plan to buy like everything the band did next paycheck or seven

Step 4: Remember that America did the soundtrack for The Last Unicorn

Step 5: ALL THE ADULTHOOD FEELS BECAUSE YOU MISSED THAT MOVIE AS A KID

Step 6: Plan to look for and/or start a blog dedicated to awesome oldschool chimeric unicorns, none of these horses with narwhal tusks stapled to their heads (except perhaps on special occasions)
