Wind Waker: Right this way, sir or madam. Basically pacing issues and wtf Ganondorf is not a sympathetic villain.
Super Paper Mario: Well, just to get it in pixels… to my discredit I have yet to finish playing it, but in a way it has the opposite problem as Other M: The storyline was pretty engrossing, but the gameplay was pretty meh. Dunno if you’ve played any of the other Paper Marios, but they’re wonderful little JRPGs with bits of platforming elements. SPM is a platformer with a few JRPG elements and a JRPG-style story… and this while still for the most part using the engine from the first two games, which was not really designed for extensive platforming. It’s like a pie that is trying to be a cake by adding tons of frosting. Just be a pie, man, it’s what you’re good at!
It just feels clunky, and part of it is just disappointment that it’s not a JRPG, frankly. Now that I’ve had time to let it stew and to come to acceptance, I’ll probably pick it back up at some point: I can’t stress enough that the writing was hilarious up to the point where I got distracted.
